Since then, the bequest has been detained by the courts and the U.S. Government because of international legal complications. The money has been held by the Union County treasurer. Last June 11, the Chancery Division of Superior Court ordered the treasurer to pay the sum to the Most Reverend Vincent Brizgys, auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic metropolitan arch diocese of Kanuas, Lithuania.

Appeal Award Pauline Styler and Petronella Padagas Scanlon, Andrejauski's next of kin, appealed the award. Their lawyers claimed the transmission of a lump sum of this size "and even its most cau tious and piecemeal distribution to its intended beneficiaries will not long escape the avid attention of the local commissars. Perhaps even now they are on the lookout for it They also contended Brizgys failed to prove the existence of the church and claimed no witness had had personal contact with the church since 1944. The Appellate Court noted Scanlon and Miss Tyler were unable to prove the church did not exist. But it said it would be best to take further testimony from two witnesses who Brizgys claimed visited Vevirzenai in 1963 and can testify as to the existence of the church.

The court also notified New Jer sey Atty. Gen. Sills it may be advisable for him to participate in further proceedings, since a charitable trust is involved.
