22 COURIER-POST. Camden. N.J., Monday, Sept 30, 1974 Dear Abby An Exhibitionist Is Cured Those who sincerely wish to overcome their problem have an excellent chance of being helped, either by psychotherapy or conditioned reflex therapy. I urge those who are still fighting this battle to seek out such help. DEAR ABBY: "Stumped Divorcee" didn't know how to say no" to a man.

She said. "If I had never been married. I could say I was saving myself for marriage, but a divorcee can't say I have a solution for her: I was a divorcee for ten years. I never said "no" to a man because I didn't want him to think I was a prude. And I never said "yes" because I didn't want him to think I was a tramp.

So I always said "maybe." It worked like a charm. I had so many proposals I couldn't count them. I am now married to the greatest guy in the world. THE MAYBE GIRL DEAR MAYBE: I can only assume that yonr "maybe" turned into a "yes." What was the time schedule on that? Design for People Making Your Own Cushioned Sofa BY EMILY MALINO In the good old days when oranges were shipped in sturdy wooden crates, folks used them to furnish their first parlor, turning them into coffee or end tables or even occasional seats with a floppy pillow atop each crate. Today's oranges come in plastic bags and a well-made orange crate probably costs as much as a coffee table, but there are still ways to make simple, inexpensive furniture for any room.

One of my favorites is the sofa box or boxy sofa. This is a simple platform almost anyone can make. I made mine out of 2-by-ls for the inner frame, and plywood to cover it. The box dimension are rooughly the same as for a conventional sofa; the seat height is about 15 inches high and 30 inches deep. The length depends, of course, on how much space you have on hand.

IN MY room, a small single-windowed wall was the best spot for an L-shaped sitting group, so I simply made TWO boxes and allowed one to overlap the other. This overlap became a corner planter; visually, the table, the plants that seem to thrive in this happy corner, and the plain-Jane window behind it combine to give a strong vertical thrust to a conventional low-ceiling room. But back to the box. I used a highly-grained oak veneer for the plywood; one 4-by-8 sheet was enough to sheathe the front and both sides of the long piece and the two long sides and front of the shorter piece, which is all that shows. Another sheet of the same plywood covers the top of the boxes.

The open space behind the long piece is a handy place for storing extra pillows and bedding when the box becomes a bed for the overnight guest. love leaving her the car with a full tank of gas. Thank you for your compassionate and understanding attitude. You said. "It's an illness. He needs therapy." Abby. you are so right.

I am a 28-year-old man who was cursed with that illness for about 15 years. It's called "exhibitionism." And it's as difficult to control as alcoho-ism. In plain language, it's an uncontrollable urge to expose oneself. I was normal in all other respects and couldn't understand this fierce urge I seemed powerless to control. I won't go into the humiliation, problems with the law and tremendous guilt feelings I suffered until I finally found a psychologist who knew how to treat this illness.

He used the "conditioning" technique, and it cured I have been married for five years to a woman who stood by me through the worst. She gave me the courage to seek professional help, and the strength to stick with the treatment. Had it not been for her, I could not be signing EX-EXHIBITIONIST P.S. I am signing my real name and address. If you print my letter, please don't divulge my name or location. Mlthough I am cured, and. God willing, will never regress, I am still ashamed of my past. DEAR EX: Because I feel that an unenlightened society has misunderstood this problem for years I shall print your letter.

Perhaps in an effort not to seem self-serving, you failed to mention an important fact: Exhibitionists are usually gentle, nonviolent people, and the chances of their attacking anyone are very, very remote. But in fairness to society, exhibitionists cannot be allowed to go about traumatizing children and shocking adults. "WANTED: Christian woman to do ironing." Is there any other kind who irons? If someone had told me before 1 got married that I it urinir iv would stand like a statue for six hours every week in front of a board with three pounds of steam and heat in my right hand and push it back and forth over a PRIMO beer sweatshirt, I would have called off the wedding. I once lived next door to a Christian woman who ironed.

Every Monday she would put up her ironing board and wheel out one of those baskets on legs and iron each piece as it came. I could have watched her for hours. She ironed sheets, dish towels, socks, belt buckles, underwear, the tongues in tennis shoes, the binding on blankets and even zippers. I never saw such a martyr. One day I couldn't believe my eyes.
