COURiER-PCST, Sunday, October 11. 1987 HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' SOCCER HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' SOCCER Cherry East wins; Shawnee tops West Cinnaminson upsets East on late goal by Mark Jones By ED CUNEO Of the Courier-Post CINNAMINSON Mark Jones scored with 1:22 left in the game to decide Cinnaminson High School's 2-1 upset victory over Cherry Hill East yesterday in an Olympic Conference boys' soccer game. Jones' goal capped a wild game in which East dominated offensively but Cinnaminson refused to break. Cherry Hill East, the No. 1 team in the Top Ten Poll, suffered its first loss and is 6-1-1.

Cinnaminson, No. 4 in the poll, is 9-0. The game also featured an out standing performance by Cinnaminson goalkeeper Bill Funs who collected 19 saves and made every stop imaginable. Against the Cinnaminson defense. Cherry Hill East was frustrated time and again.

Cinnaminson had few legitimate scoring chances but cashed in on two of them. The winning goal came when Keith Landgraff, who had saved a goal moments before, worked down deep along the touch-line. East goalkeeper Dave Gruber came out and stopped Landgraff's shot. The rebound came away and Jones followed by volleying in his eighth goal of the season. BILL FUHS outstanding in goal Cherry, a senior, scored her second.

"Cinnaminson was very quick and moved the ball well," said Cherry Hill East coach Lee Troutman. "We played our best game so far. Our midfielders were the key. They won a majority of the 50-50 balls." East's Andrea Rubio, with 19 goals, had her string of six games with at least three goals snapped. Rubio did assist on two goals.

Edgewood scored a 2-0 victory over Camden Catholic. Michelle Christian and Tina Maiese scored for the Eagles, 7-2. Beth Hooper had to make only four saves in net. Tracy Adams and Susan Brennan each scored a goal in the fourth period as Paul VI defeated Eastern, 3-0. The first goal for Paul VI was scored when an Eastern player inadvertently scored in her own net.

Ann Brennan had seven saves for Paul VI. INTER-LEAGUE Sue Williams and Jill Stielau each scored twice as Shawnee beat Cherry Hill West, 5-0. Williams has nine goals and Stielau, five, for No. 6 Shawnee, 8-1. Kim Brockerman was credited with her sixth straight shutout.

Theresa Sorrentino scored twice and Tracey Thompson, once, to lead Pemberton to a 3-0 win over McCor-ristin. Sorrentino added goals two and three on the season and Thompson scored her first. Rose Rosa and Debbie Sienkiewicz shared the shtutout. HIGH SCHOOL FIELD HOCKEY Shawnee wins 8th; Carey scores 4 goals Fitzgerald scores 2, Sterling downs Colls "East has a great team," said Cinnaminson coach Jay Phillips. "We beat them without our leading scorer, Keith Bottger.

We felt that we had to keep the ball wide because their sweeper (Mark Pelouze) is a super player. That's what our second-half strategy was. "It took a team effort to beat East. Every kid played hard. But it could have gone either way." Fuhs and a little luck made sure of that.

With 8:33 left. Eric Thomas-big throw beat Fuhs, who had come out. Dan Beaney's head ball was on the mark, but it hit the post and went out. At 2:34, Beaney again converted Thomas' throw into a threatening shot when Landgraff, who was stationed on the line, chested the ball down and kicked it out. Fuhs kept Cinnaminson in the game in the first half with a couple of fine saves.

Cherry Hill East managed to beat Fuhs with 36 seconds left in the third quarter. Todd Kinney switched fields with a long ball. It went to Beaney, who headed it down to Mike Joseph. Joseph, who was less than 12 yards from the goal, got off a quick shot that Fuhs reacted to and stopped. Bill couldn't hold the ball and it went back to Joseph, who knocked it in for his third goal.

But that was the last time Fuhs would let that happen. "I played in the off-season with five or six of their guys, so I knew what they could do," said Fuhs, a senior two-year starter. "I was up for it, naturally, because they were the No. 1 team. But I didn't want to get too psyched because I didn't want to make a mistake.

Most of the saves were just pure reaction. On their goal, I guessed long-side and I was right. I just couldn't hold it. "The defense in front of me was just great. It had to be, because our leading scorer was out.

We figure if we can score one or two goals, then the defense can hold the fort." Top-rated Shawnee High School rolled to its eighth straight victory, and Gina Carey scored four times to spark Florence and highlight scholastic field hockey action yesterday. Shawnee got goals from Chris McGinley, Patsy Curcio and Sue Long to defeat Triton, 3-0, for Coach Bobbie Schultz.
