and Mrs. Peter P. Corra-detti of 442 Allen Avenue, LONDON (UPI) Hardy Amies, one of Queen Elizabeths' couturiers, took the plunge in reverse yesterday and hoisted his hemlines above the knee. The skirts in his new collection for spring and summer just bared the knee, but were not daring as the six inches of upper leg displayed by some of young women around town. Queen Elizabeth's other dressmaker, Norman Hartnell, kept the knee half covered in his collection shown Tuesday.

He said during a business trip to New York last week that he thought very short skirts were ugly. Amies showed a very slim, trim and simple silhouette. His coats and suits were so plain that some did without buttons and had invisible zip fastenings instead. Coat-capes with half sleeves from the elbow were the exception to this narrow look. He uses a lot of tweed in color combinations of pale blue and green, lemon and mauve, grey and pink.

For evening, he concocted some two-in-one dresses. For example, one called "Odyssey" could be worn as a long Grec- ian-style, all-white dress in chiffon or with a removable bodice of intricate gold and white embroider. Two of Amies' models had the latest hair style in London one eye completely hidden by a sheet of hair brushed forward. Another London couturier, John Cavanagh, also put his hemline up today to one inch above the knee. He showed lean styles and sometimes dropped the waistline.

His color for spring is white. Cavanagh described his evening dresses as "sexy and Gold Lane Accessorized MISS KITTY J. MARKWITH Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Jack R.

No, the man's boutonniere is usually something plainer in flowers, such as a white carnation.

1 have a collar of white marabou which seems to be getting dingy. How can I clean it? Do not attempt to clean it yourself. Marabou is best cleaned by fur-cleaning or other dry-cleaning methods. Take the collar to a good local cleaner who generally handles fur cleaning. What would be good to take for a freighter trip to Panama? I have several knit suits.

What about slacks? A leather coat for boarding? Evening? As a freighter requires no glamour, you can wear slacks, knits, leather or whatever else would be comfortable. Of course, your knits may be too warm once you near the sub-tropics, so have some summer-fabric clothes, too. As it's all one dining room for passengers and crew, wear only day dresses or costumes of the kind you would wear to lunch. I will be touring in South America during February, taking in Caracas, Bogotn, Lima, Cuzco, Quito and Guatemala. What is the climate like, and what wardrobe will 1 need? On the plane, wear a suit and topcoat, the coat with a zip-out lining and water-repellent finish.

A reception followed at Nassau Inn, Princeton. Following of fabrics, as South America re-1 verses our seasons, but some of the place you name are at a high enough altitude that the weather will be quite cool. So have linen dresses, but also knits. Use mostly separates which can be worn in layers according to weather changes, with both wool and cotton pieces. From Ohio I'm flying to Hawaii in March.

I will return by ship and rail, taking in San Francuico and Disneyland. Please advise on You will need both light summery things for Hawaii, and somewhat warmer things for cool San Francisco. Wear a wool spring suit, and take an all-weather topcoat, plus very light raincoat for Hawaii, where showers are frequent. Summer sportswear and shifts will be all you need for Hawaii. For evening, take a spring cocktail dress, bare at top, plus jacket.

It will do everywhere you need a dress outfit. Cotton knits in white or beige will cover all spots. Tailored mix-and-match separates are good for San Francisco. For the ship's evenings, take a short chiffon dress, as it packs in a small amount of space. Can gold or silver lame be worn for spring? 1 bought two knits for holiday parties, one gold, the other silver, and would like to get more use out of them.

Both can certainly be worn right through until at least April. In late April, however, gold gets a little heavy-looking, so stSck to the silver knit. JET-ACTION AGITATOR JET-AWAY LINT REMOVER 1 YEAR SERVICE FREE DELIVERY SERVICE mm OS By FLORENCE de SANTIS I have a gold lame sheath party dress, with a high neckline, with which I plan gold lame shoes and clutch bag, if you approve. 1 have a brown fur stole. Can 1 wear this outfit at all for day? What about hat and jewelry? Gloves? Light or dark hosiery? Accessorizing lame depends a good deal on whether it is very gold or a pale glitter kind of yarn mixed with some white.

The more gold it is, the less should be put with it. The gold bag and shoes fit, but if it is a pale kind of glitter fabric, a white bag could also be used. No hat, and no jewelry, I would say, except possibly rather plain button earrings. But if you feel the dress really needs something, a pin would be preferable. Wear white kid or very good silk or nyldn gloves.

Hosiery shade is best on the pale side. This outfit, however, can't be worn before five, as it is definitely a cocktail-evening costume. Although I'm a boy, I thought you could answer this question for me. The girl I'm taking to a prom is wearing either a gold or green long dress. What flowers and what color should I give her? Do I wear a dinner jacket? A tux? Siiould my buttonhole flower be the same as the girl's? Gardenias are a good choice in color and suitability for almost any dress.

Dinner jacket is the same thing as a tux, just a newer name for it. Both the girl and you should be dressed according to whether this dance is listed as formal.
