COURIER-POST, CHCRRY HILL, N.J. Friday, Nov. 26. 1976 67 Fly erg try to break out of "What puzzles me is that we work so hard and, of late, we're coming up emptyhanded. We can't feel sorry for ourselves, though, we must keep plugging away." General Manager Keith Allen continued to plug away on Wednesday when he purchased left winger-center Harvey Bennett from the Washington Capitals.

"We feel Harvey is young and has plenty of room for improvement," remarked Allen. "He should be able to help us." Bennett originally played for Pittsburgh, but was obtained by the Capitals last Dec. 16 for Stan Gilbertson. The 6-4, 215-pounder has played 18 games this year. He has two goals, eight assists and 34 minutes of penalty time.

iBennett's brother. Curt, plays for the Atlanta Flames. Harvey, like Flyer Paul Holmgren, is American-bom. Allen wouldn't comment on how soon Bennett would be in the Flyers' lineup, but most observers believe the move is just a forerunner to another trade. Andre Dupont is still out with a strained back and Larry Goodenough is recuperating from a severe char-leyhorse suffered two weeks ago.

Dupont's return is still up in the air, but Goodenough is expected to return Sunday for the game against -the Islanders in the Spectrum. Even when all the injured hands return, there's no assurance the dilemma will dry up and blow away. PHILADELPfflA--The Flyers are in the throes of a dilemma. A nine-game winning streak on home ice snapped by the Rangers in a 2-2 tie on Wednesday, coach Fred Shero's skaters shoot for their first win on the road. tonight when they invade Colorado for a return match with the Rockies.

The Flyers nailed the Rockies inthe first meeting, 5-3, but were pressed in doing so. 1 The tie with the Rangers enabled the Flyers to pick up a point on the Islanders but, at the same time, dropped the locals into third place, a point behind Atlanta. It used to be Philly was under protective custody playing in the Spectrum, but now that magic is beginning to disappear. "We've got to do a turnabout on the road," said veteran Gary Dom-hoefer, who scored both goals against the Rangers. "This team is a much better hockey club than our record indicates.

Olympic loop okays Gloucester Catholic Gloucester Catholic High School officially has become the newest member of the Olympic Conference. Carl Maiese, conference president and principal at Edgewood High School, made the announcement Wednesday afternoon shortly after conference officials voted to accept the Parochial school during a meeting at Overbrook High School. Bill Hunter, athletic director at Gloucester Catholic, admitted he was both "relieved and sort of drained." Hunter said he felt drained because gaining admission as the 13th school in the conference took a lot of hard work and talking. "As recently as Monday, I was concerened on how the voting would go," said Hunter. "We needed seven of 10 districts to vote affirmatively and I was not sure we'd get them." I Gloucester Catholic did win approval and will start participating in the Olympic Conference in 1977.

Hie Rams will go into the smaller enrollment National Division as the seventh school, or one of the present National Division schools will move to the larger American Hunter said the most important thing is that Gloucester Catholic athletes will now have a league to compete in. "They'll have something to shoot for, a standard." Gloucester Catholic can also look forward to an end to its independent scheduling difficulties and a sharp decrease in its transportation The growth of natural rivalries also seems assured because Gloucester Catholic draws from the same districts as Gateway, Deptford and West Deptford. "As a matter of fact," said Hunter Thursday after Gloucester Catholic had beaten St. Joe's of Camden 8-0 in football, "the team was cheering tye want Deptford' after the game." The Rams may not be ready to compete against the type of football powerhouse Deptford has fielded the last two seasons, but the enthusiasm excited Hunter. "I don't think they're ready said Hunter, "but they are enthused, as is the basketball team.

They are looking forward to competing against teams like Deptford." More importantly for Bill Hunter, Gloucester Catholic athletic director, the days of searching for a conference home have ended.
