His family hasn't seen the money since, although they have spoken to Chinni and members of his family 15 or 20 times. He said he had a top-flight lawyer who for the right fee would draft and argue a motion to win the early release of the cellmate. The fee was $35,000. The fellow inmate, James Stach, serving a term for a drug charge, was broke, but he believed in Chinni, probably because he didn't know the 43-year-old Hackensack man had five prior convictions for fraud. Chinni now has six convictions, and is the subject of a fugitive warrant issued by Superior Court Judge Joseph Greene after he failed to show up last week for the last day of his trial. He said the use of lap belts often causes severe internal injuries to Police notebook Man, shot in right leg, released from hospital WILLINGBORO A man who walked a mile and a half to Ran- cocas Hospital after being shot in the right thigh during a robbery was released yesterday from the hospital. Police said Tracy Robinson, 23, of Spiralwood Lane, Willingboro, was admitted to the hospital about 1 a.m. Thursday and had been listed in stable condition.

Robinson, according to a police report, walked into the hospital's emergency room shortly after the shooting and told officials he had been shot. Hospital officials notified police. Robinson told police he was walking along Sunset Road in the vicinity of the Village Mall at about 12:30 a.m. when a car with two men inside pulled up next to him. The passenger got out, displayed a gun and demanded Robinson's cash and other valuables, they said.

The victim told police the man took $25 in cash plus three gold chains and a woman's ring. No value was listed for the jewlery. Robinson told police he then ran from the scene only to hear the driver tell the other man, "Pop him, man." He said he heard a shot and felt a burning sensation in the thigh. The two men then fled in the car, and Robinson began his hike to the hospital, which is off Sunset Road. The incident was under investigation.
