WENONAH Amos Kirby, onetime author, lecturer and media personality specializing in agriculture, died Friday of prostrate cancer at his daughter's home here. He was 95. Mr. Kirby, who lived here with his daughter, Marjorie Lentz, was farm editor for the Woodbury Daily Times (now the Gloucester County Times) for 30 years and program director for the Family Farm program for WCAU radio and television. For early morning television viewers, Amos Kirby was the smiling face that invariably opened each day's programming on WCAU-TV with his "Farm Digest." He was the New Jersey editor for the American Argiculturist and was a regular-contributor to numerous farm and horticultural publications through New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

In addition, he was a member of the New Jersey Grange for 82 years; the Mul-lica Hill Grange, the Mullica Hill Lions; the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the Philadelphia Society for Chester Gould, WOODSTOCK, 111. (AP) Chester Gould, who created the Dick Tracy comic strip from ideas spawned in the crime-filled streets of Depression-era Chicago, has died at the age of 84. Gould died at home at 1:30 a.m. yesterday, said his daughter, Jean O'Connell of Geneva. He had been in ill health for some time and bad suffered a heart attack in October.

Tracy was born in the days of the Depression, prohibition and gangsters. In "The Celebrated Cases of Dick Tracy," published in 1980, Gould was quoted as saying: "I decided that if the police couldn't catch the gangsters, I'd create a fellow who would."
