6B COURIER-POST, Thureday, S.ptsmber East will have trouble in 5 -team battle year," the coach said of Lischner, who scored 13 times as a sophomore last season. Senior Rich Leopold and junior Rick Brownell will be counted on to anchor the defense. Paul VI might be starting the league's youngest team. "We'll have possibly six sophomores and one freshman starting," said Coach Charlie Kiel. "We'll be a year or two away from a contender." Kiel, however, is the only conference coach with experience in the net as Greg Golden returns after notching four shutouts last season.

George Grans, Pat Tricocci (four trouble," Heisman said, pointing to a lack of depth. Steve Reinhardt, Cherry West coach, already thinks he's in trouble, but you can never tell what the Lion coach has up his sleeve. "Our uniforms are pretty," he laughed. "We'll finish fourth or fifth, maybe third," he said in one breath, but was quick to add, "We'll hang in there. We're not surrendering yet." The return of Dave Lischner, alone, means that the Lions will not be pushovers, and Reinhardt knows it.

"He should be one of the top two or three players in South Jersey this goals last year), Jim McErlean, Chris Coulter and Carmen DiCiano are other vets returning, but you'll I need a program to identify the rest of Kiel's club. Camden Catholic will be hard pressed to equal last season's win total of eight, the best in the school's history. "We're going to scuffle," admitted coach Bill Winegardner. "We're still a little ways away from the class of the two Cherry Hills and Pennsauken. Of course, 70 percent of the teams in South Jersey are out of their class." Winegardner returns seniors Tom Jock, Shawn Conn and Ben Marini, plus Shawn Kelly, who will take over for Chip Cray in the net.

Cray held the Irish intact last season with a 1.11 gaa. Overall, the league appears, on paper at least, to have more balance than ever. Neither East nor West appears capable of repeating last year's performance, and Pennsauken looks to be a little stronger. Whether or not the Indians have improved enough to move into the top spot remains to be seen. merman will not make it any easier, but the Tribe should score a lot more than it did last season, when it scored just 28 goals in 19 games.

Players responsible for 21 of those goals are returning, led by Senior Jim Vautier, who pumped home 10 in spite of nagging injuries. If he can stay healthy, he should have a great season. Joe Ott, another senior, and Pete O'Hagan, a junior, also proved capable of putting points on the board last season. Ott scored six goals, O'Hagan adding four. The a defensive dynamo last season, will also be forced to rebuild with the graduation of All-South Jersey performers Wayne Ramsey (goal) and Pete Dennen (back).

Heisman also numbers Ned Sheerin among the missing. Let) Goldberg, a senior, and Anthony Maggio, a junior, are in the process of battling for the unenvious position of Ramsey's replacement. After all, how do you replace a tender who allows only seven goals in a season? Like Pennsauken, however, the Cougars return their number one scorer, John Newcomb. East also i (Another in a series previewing Sooth Jersey scholastic soccer teams.) By PHILL MARDER Of the Courier-Post Cherry Hill East finally knocked Cherry Hill West from its lofty perch as South Jersey North soccer champion last season, ending the four-year reign of the Lions. WhetherornotEd Heisman'sCou-gars can continue their reign as top cat in this five-team jungle remains to be seen.

Without a doubt, East will be a team to contend with once again. West, as usual, will be right there, too. But both of those clubs will be hard pressed for a repeat of last year, which saw each team lose only three times. Pennsauken, Camden Catholic and Paul VI traditionally compose the "rest of the league," but the Indians of Bill Hughes may finally be in a position to shatter the monopoly of the two Cherry Hill clubs. Hughes isn't in a position to begin accepting surrenders yet, but he's optimistic if, he says, "We can put a defense together." Junior Scott Sommerman will probably be counted on to fill the empty net left by goalie Jim Munda.

It will not be an easy task, as Munda chalked up seven shutouts and an 0.95 goals-against-average last season. Newcomers protecting Som 1 ,1 JIM VAUTIER Pennsauken scorer OifSoo! PENNSAUKEN Why, you ask? That's good question. A three-way lie is possible, but the Indians deserve a nod because well, because they're due. CHERRY WEST Detensing the scoring potential of Dave Lischner Is going to be a problem tar every Dm opponent. Steve Reinhardt can be counted on to come up with something to beck him up.

making West as tough as ever. CHERRY EAST The Cougars won with heir delense last season and that defense was last teen whistling "Pomp and Circum stance." A repeal of the league championship is not an impossibility, but it won't be easy. CAMDEN CATHOLIC Coming olf (heir best season ever, the Irish will have lo pull out every stop to equal last season's win total of eight. By PHILL MARDER Of the Courier-Post While most of the division soccer races are loaded with uncertainties, only one question looms large in the Burlco Liberty title chase doesn't anyone ever graduate from Willingboro? For those who watched Jack Mulder's 17-4-1 powerhouse last season, the answer to that question may be a resounding, "No." Mulder can draw on the talent of returnees such as Chris Snyder, Nick Juengert, Mike Messey, Joe Skwara, Jim McCarty, John Dim-bat, Bruce Bellinger, Glenn Bren-nan and Ray Goon.

Led by Snyder, who scored 14, that group accounted for 45 goals last season. If you're looking for a weakness on defense, forget it. Goalie Steve Erdman returns for his third year in the net. Erdman was shaky at times last season, but still notched seven shutouts and a 1.14 goals-against-average. 9 On paper, it looks as if the Chimeras should be awesome unless they become overconfident and beat themselves.

If that should occur, Liberty rivals, particularly Cinnamlnson, Kennedy and Shawnee, will be right there to take advantage. The Pirates of Jay Phillips have big scorers back in Bill O'Donnell (10 goals) and John Seymour (11 goals). Phillips has 10 other lettermen returning, including backup goal-tender Tom Lawlor, who was unscored upon in four outings last year. Shawnee slipped to a .500 record last season, but the Renegades are traditionally tough and can't be taken for granted. Junior brothers Ross and Rich Alber give Brian Gib-ney a legitimate scoring duo.

Charlie Duccilli, South Jersey's winningest active coach with 126 victories, always has a competitive squad. This year should be no exception as the Gryphons return Jim Bailey, a nine-goal scorer last year. -Outlook WILLINGSORO II the Chlmerei can keep from being overwhelmed by their prett clippings, they should be a learn to remember lor a long time. CINNAMINSON The scoring potential and extreme aggressive play of the Pirates will make them a threat to scuttle any opponent. SHAWNEI The Renegades look to rebound trom disappointing campaign.

They should, but a league crown looks remote. KENNEDY the Gryphons don't appear to have a lot left trom last season, but they always seem to come up with a competitive squad. LENAPE The Indians havea loser reputation to shake. This could be the season hat they do it. managed only 28 scores in 19 starts last year, but Newcomb had eight of those.

Guy Cilento, also returning, had six and Mike Monteiro managed three as a sophomore. "We may be as strong as last year, but, if we get injuries, we are in CHRIS SNYDER Willingboro returnee Moorestown, under John Toppin, is another Liberty mainstay. The Quakers, however, lost most of last season's 12-4-2 club. Toppin does have Paul Sowney, who scored six times last year, returning. If you're looking for a surprise team, try the Lenape Indians.

Fourteen return for Coach Howard Denn, including 10-goal scorer Chris Fry-land. If Denn can come up with something to back him up, the Tribe could ambush a lot of clubs. Rancocas Valley, Cherokee, Holy Cross and Pemberton are very young teams in a very tough league. The Hollies will probably feature only three seniors, Bob Brown, Mike Osworth and Sean Chidsey. One name familiar to soccer fans, however, will be Dom Fidelia, a junior striker this season.

Cherokee returns senior tenders Harris Friedberg and Mike Vizard and Gary Steckley while Holy Cross comes back with goalie Joe Palecki and Dave Countryman. Pemberton has two proven scorers in Farhad Ardalani and Nam II Kang returning, with youth making up the rest of the squad. MOORESTOWN It's hard to pick the Quakers this low, but It's hard to pick them any higher. Looks like a rebuilding year. RANCOCAS VALLEY The Hollies football team should be pretty good this year, but Roger Budd's team doesn't look bad itself, keepyourioccertleketslhisyear.

HOLY CROSS Coach Joe Urtasun thinks the Lancers will win them all. I foubl it, but you never know. CHEROKEE The Chlels have two goalies with experience back. If they can play both in the net al the same time, they could be tough. REMSERTON This team Is so young.
