Love Your Children and Grandchildren OBITUARIES Sir Karl Popper, British philosopher Associated Press CROYDON, England Philosopher Sir Karl Popper, one of the most prominent antivoices whose views helped frame the ideals of Britain's conservative government in the 1980s, died Saturday. He was 92. Sir Popper died of complications of cancer, pneumonia and kidney failure at Mayday Hospital in the London suburb of Croydon, a hospital manager said. Much of Sir Popper's work and thought concerned science and the uncertainty of knowledge.

But it was for his views on Marxism and communism that the eminent Austrian-born philosopher was most widely known. His ideas and those of economists Frederick Hayek and economist Milton Friedman are said to have provided the intellectual framework of former Prime Min- Jean Childs Associated Press ATLANTA Jean Childs Young, an educator, civil and human rights activist and the wife of former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young, died Friday. She was 61. She died of liver cancer at Crawford Long Hospital of Emory University. Mrs.

Young, a native of Marion, was diagnosed with cancer in early 1991, not long Lewis Stein, 70, of Wenonah, died suddenly Sept. 3 at his home. Mr. Stein was a self-employed businessman and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was an avid hunter and artist.

Surviving are his wife, Theresa Brown; a son, Joseph Stein of Pensacola, five stepchildren; and 13 grandchildren. He was the father of the late David Stein. Trautner, 80, of National Park, died Friday at Underwood-Memorial Hospital, Woodbury. Mr. Trautner was born in Philadelphia and had lived in National Park since 1960. He was a World War II Navy veteran and worked for the Philadelphia Navy Yard as a pipefitter for 33 years. He was a member of VFW Post No.

6884 of National Park. Surviving are his wife, Doris (nee Bell); a daughter, Sharon Shields of Mickleton; and two grandchildren. Friends and relatives may call after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Woodbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.

at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 4th and Monument avenues, National Park. Interment will be at Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro. Sheldon L. Watts, 70, of Cherry Hill, died Thursday at the Newcomb Medical Center, Vineland.

Mr. Watts, also known as "Whitey," worked as a truck driver for the Smith Transfer Co. of Staunton, and was a member of Teamsters Local 107 in Philadelphia. He retired after 42 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a member of the 36th Cavalry Recon.

He was also a volunteer firefighter for 20 years at Ashland Fire Hall 2 in Cherry Hill. He is survived by his wife, Mary V. (nee McGee); four sons, John P. of Cherry Hill, Robert of Augusta, Richard A. of Stratford, and William G.

of Glendora; a daughter, Marie K. Herring of Erial; three brothers, Ralph, Arden and Kenneth, all of Berwick, three sisters, Clara, Mildred and Myrtle, all of Berwick; and 14 grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Schetter Funeral Home, 304 W. Route 70, Cherry Hill.

Hospital, Cherry Hill. Mr. Mickens was born in Albert F. Mickens, 64, of Mount Laurel, died Thursday at Kennedy Memorial ister Margaret Thatcher's Conservative Party. Billionaire financier George Young, activist, after her husband's unsuccessful 1990 campaign for governor and Atlanta's successful bid to host the 1996 Olympics.

She played a major role in both efforts, campaigning for her husband in 1990 and traveling to Africa, the Middle East and Europe to garner support for Atlanta's Olympic bid. While her husband was mayor, she founded the Mayor's Task Force on Public Education, for Philadelphia and was a 27-year resident of Mount Laurel. He worked as a salesman for Courtesy Chevrolet in Runnemede. He was, a member of the Shuffleboard Federation, a national organization of shuffleboard players. Mr.

Mickens played for 40 years and family and friends said he was the king of shuffleboard in the East. He is survived by his wife, Claire (nee Gideon); a daughter, Theresa McCourt of Marlton; two brothers, Edward of Magnolia and Robert of Clayton; a sister, Kay A. Brosius was born in Riverside and lived in the Morgan Village section of Camden before moving to Woodbury, where he lived for many years. He worked as an expediter for RCA in Camden for 46 years. Surviving are his wife, (nee Youse); a daughter, Ethel DiCrescenzo of Woodbury; a son, Roland J. Jr. of Woodbury; two brothers, Albert of Narango, and Arthur of Mount Ephraim; and a sister, Edna M.

Baker of Berlin. Friends and relatives may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cooper and Euclid streets, Woodbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be private. Arrangements are by the McGuinness Funeral Home of Washington Township and Woodbury. Lourdes Medical Center there. Mr. Baker was born in Cleveland and was a longtime resident of Camden.

He worked as an electrician for the city for 20 years. He was a member of Gloucester Moose Lodge No. 111. He is survived by a brother, Abe of California. Friends and family may call after 9:30 a.m.

Mrs. Oerther (nee Hagensick) was born in Camden, formerly lived in Audubon and was a 29-year resident of Surf City. She was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary Marie Oerther, 80, of Surf City, died Friday at the Soros established his network of Open Society educational and throughout the former Commudemocracy-building foundations nist world in Sir Popper's spirit. Sir Popper began his opposition to Marxism during his youth in Vienna, soon after World War I. After considering himself a communist for a few months, Sir Popper witnessed a confrontation between Vienna police and young unarmed socialists trying to rescue some communists from the police station.

The police fatally shot several of the young people. Sir Popper thought that as a Marxist, he would have to accept that such deaths might be necessary on the road to revolution. But he could not justify this position. wife of ex-mayor which she served seven terms as chairwoman. Mrs.

Young was involved in several major civil rights demonstrations. In 1978 President Carter appointed Mrs. Young to chair the U.S. National Commission of the International Year of the Child, a program of the United Nations designed to improve the condition of children throughout the world. Her husband was an ambassador to the United Nations under Carter.

Headley is survived by his wife, Jeanette (nee Olesiewicz); a daughter, Nancy R. Simpson of Chadds Ford, a son, Richard A. of Mount Laurel; a brother, Conrad of West Virginia; and a sister, Madeline Beck of Michigan. Friends and relatives may from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and after 10 a.m.

Tuesday at Inglesby Sons Funeral home, Cove and Wyndham roads, Pennsauken. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday and a religious service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Bethel Memorial Park, Pennsauken.

Robert E. Headley, 84, of Pennsauken, died Friday at Cooper Hospital-University Vincent J. Richardson, 69, of Deptford, died of cancer Friday at Underwood-Memorial Hospital, Woodbury. Mr. Richardson was born in Philadelphia and was a longtime resident of the Oak Valley section of Deptford.

He was a retired vice president of Philadelphia National Bank, now known as CoreStates Bank. He was a tax consultant and a graduate of the Wharton School of Business. He was also a former vice chairman of the Oak Valley Community Association and the Oak Valley Swimming Association. He is survived by his wife, Ruby A. (nee Hand); four daughters, Patricia Calloway of Williamstown, Linda Baldwin of Pitman, Joanne Bartling of Washington Township and Jean Haynes of Oak Valley; two brothers, John of Santa Ana, and Paul of Downingtown, two sisters, Geraldine Gibson of Port Charlotte, and Teresa Brogan of Glenolden, and eight grandchildren.

Friends and relatives may call after 7 p.m. Tuesday and again after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Budd Funeral Home, 171 Delaware Woodbury. Services will be follow at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Williamstown..
