Puerto Rican children celebrate Columbus CAMDEN Three hundred people filled the multipurpose room of the Rafael Cordero Molina School Tuesday to cheer on Puerto Rican children as they performed traditional dances. The dances were part of a two-hour cultural program celebrating the discovery of Puerto Rico by Christopher Colombus on Nov. 19, 1493. It was a community event sponsored by the Camden Board of Education. "It was very nice," said Grade Crespo, 32, of North Camden after the program.

"They are still teaching our children native dances and making sure they know about our own culture." In addition to the children from the Molina School, students from Lanning Square and Pyne Poynt middle schools also participated in the program. These stories are based on reporting by the Courier-Post staff. Department of Environmental Protection and Energy (DEPE). Sampling conducted by the DEPE, later confirmed by the EPA, showed excessive concentrations of numerous pesticides, especially DDT, and lesser concentrations of heavy metals and volatile and semi-volatile compounds. PPG, a party responsible for contamination at the site, has agreed to perform the cleanup work at an estimated cost of $2 million.

Trial begins for man charged with murder MOUNT HOLLY -A jury here will decide if Tina Mandzuik'a death is murder as described by the prosecution or manslaughter as the defense says. Both sides presented the differing versions during opening statements Tuesday in the murder trial of Joseph Inman, 24, the victim's live-in boyfriend.

First Assistant Burlington County Prosecutor Michael Riley told the jury that Inman held Mandzuik'a head under water in the bathtub in the apartment the couple shared until she drowned on July 27, 1990. "On the tape (videotaped confession), he says it was an accident. This was not an accident. This was not manslaughter. This was not aggravated manslaughter.

It was murder," said Riley. Dwyer asked for a recount last week because he lost the Nov. 5 election by 19 votes to Democrat Marlyn Kalitan. His loss was confirmed Tuesday by the Camden County Board of Elections, which issued a statement saying Kalitan would be certified as the winner. The final tallies did change slightly as a result of the recount.

According to elections board chairwoman Lynn C. Kmiec, the final tally changed because of a staff error. Dwyer's totals for absentee ballots went from 187 to 189, and Kalitan'a from 220 to 221. Dwyer received a total of 11,243 votes to Kalitan'a 11,261. Before the recount the totals were Dwyer, 11,241, and Kalitan, 11,260.

Kalitan said she was pleased with the results of the recount and felt sure Dwyer's efforts would be for naught.
