2D COURrER-POST, Monday, March 29, 1982 DEATH NOTICES POLICE NOTEBOOK Two firefighters charged with starting blaze in field it could have spread said, Wanzung said the men were suspended Friday after he was notified of the arrests by township police. The next step in the suspension procedure will be the appointment of a fire company review board, most likely at the company's April 5 meeting, Wanzung said. The board will investigate the charges and then make a recommendation to the 40-member company. The company will then vote on whether to reinstate the men or let the suspension stand, Wanzung said. WEST DEPTFORD Two members of the Greenfields Fire Co.

have been charged with malicious mischief in connection with a grass fire Friday near the Heather Ridge Apartments. The firefighters, Thomas J. DeCecco, 19, of Meadow Lane, and James J. Lewis, 18, of Holly Drive, were arrested Saturday and released on their own recognizance pending an April 20 municipal court hearing. Both have been members of the fire company for about six months.

The fire on Friday took about an hour to bring under control. There were no reports of injury. Although the two were only connected with Friday's blaze, Fire Chief Nicholas Wanzung said there have been about a half dozen other brush fires in a grassy field near the apartment complex off Route 45 over the last three weeks. He said all of the fires appeared suspicious. "There's only so many times you can throw out a cigarette in the same place," he said.

Although none of the fires caused injuries or property damage, Friday's blaze burned to within about 200 feet of the apartment complex, Wanzung said. As millions of readers know, Nancy Drew is an 18-year-old amateur detective. She was Mrs. Adams' favorite character. Nancy "is like my own daughters," she once said, "except Nancy always does what I say and she never talks back." In an interview with the Associated Press in February 1980 to mark Nancy Drew's 50th anniversary, Mrs. Adams said her father would have disapproved of her work because he believed the world of work was no place for a lady.

She said she made Nancy Drew 18 instead of 16 and "gave her more latitude If I made Nancy liberated, I was unconscious of the fact. She's like trie she's the best of the modern young women."
