But two weeks from today, some people might be unpleasantly surprised by the dawn of an earlier starting date for daylight-saving time a change that will have clocks spring forward while it's still winter. The shift, which extends daylight-saving time by about a month, is meant to curb the nation's energy use. But observers note the "mini Y2K" will affect a wide range of technological tools, and they worry many companies and consumers are still unprepared.

Teresa Benzwie, Lawrence Bender's mother, said her son's political leanings echo a childhood that featured anti-war and civil-rights rallies and gatherings of the Camden-based Black People's Unity Movement in her Cherry Hill home.

"I thought my children were growing up in a sterile environment very white, middle class," Benzwie said. "My house was almost like a headquarters." A practicing psychotherapist, Benzwie said she often offers her son's journey from gifted engineering student (a profession he ruled out) to dancer to starving actor and model and finally to influential filmmaker as an example to patients who feel hopeless in their Lawrence but fate By SARAH GREENBLATT Courier-Post Staff CHERRY HILL Aaron Bender, a Cherry Hill psychoanalyst, will watch tonight's Oscar ceremonies with an abiding gratitude for his son's bad knees. If Cherry Hill High School East alumnus Lawrence Bender hadn't injured his knees, his father said, he might still be a professional dancer. "In his heart, I think he still yearns to be a ballet dancer," Aaron Bender said. So Lawrence Bender turned his attention to producing films.

His latest is An Inconvenient Truth, the Oscar-nominated documentary in which former Vice President Al Gore delivers a chilling warning about global warming. "The movie may wake the world up," said Aaron Bender, a former Rowan University history professor. "Of all the movies which Lawrence has made, this is the movie that's most important for the world." Already an acclaimed Hollywood producer, Lawrence Bender's previous credits include Good Will Hunting, A Price Above Rubies, Anna and the King, The Mexican and all of director Quentin Tarantino's films, from Reservoir Dogs to both Kill Bill movies. The "best documentary" and "best song" awards for which An Inconvenient Truth was nominated mark the 20th and 21st Oscar nods for Lawrence Bender's movies. Pulp Fiction and Good Will Hunting were both best-picture nominees.

Corzine's budget proposal is a roughly $126 million cut in state funds. But the fight to restore that aid may spark a far-reaching discussion on health care in New Jersey and visions for universal coverage. The debate is expected to start unfolding in the coming months with wrangling over state support for hospitals, which mostly goes to help pay for charity care treatment facilities provide to the uninsured. "It'll get people's attention and we'll have a tremendous debate this spring," Corzine said Friday. "I think it's most likely to be the hottest topic of the budget debates."
